Would you believe there is a huge, very solid Christian Counseling Center about 15 minutes from where we live? Thanks to all who were praying for me as I interviewed for a job opportunity there. San Jose Christian Counseling Center. I did get the job last week after my second interview. I haven’t started seeing any clients yet, that will probably come week after next, but this coming week I will attend a supervision meeting on Monday and staff meeting on Wednesday.
I have been praying since before we got here that God would provide guidance for me in this area, and that he would show me how I can best serve South Bay’s ministry through counseling. There are families and individuals who need counseling and a huge barrier for them is the cost. So what we have at our church is the same problem that many other churches experience to some degree. We have families who need counseling, but the need is too great for our staff to legistically handle with individual sessions. It is very time consuming! And the families usually dont have the financial resources to invest in weekly sessions at a counseling center.
What has developed in the past month seems to be an answer to prayer! I have applied with California’s state board and been given my registration number which is a requirement to work as an intern pursuing a license. The following week I was hired on a part time basis (10 client hours a week) at a place that requires me to build my own client base. It won’t be much income at all for me at this point, but what it offers is a chance for me to earn hours toward licensure (could be a 5-6 year process), to have built-in free supervision (many interns have to pay for a supervisor) and to provide a place for South Bay to refer people for biblically based counseling. And South Bay can even choose to help folks with the cost of counseling!
This is one of those times when you look at a situation and it seems to cloudy and foggy . . . so many variables and potential roadblocks . . . Then step by step you proceed, and when you turn around to look back you see how God put everything together for everyone’s best interest!
