On this past Sunday our church did something really unique. There is a super faithful volunteer named Tiana who serves our church in many ways, primarily at our Sunday morning refreshment table. She is a single mom of 5 kids, ages 5 to 18. Her husband passed away suddenly a few years ago. She began coming to South Bay when she saw our sign across the street from her apartment complex. Tiana works the night shift and takes care of her kids during the day. She was baptized at South Bay’s first baptism service and serves every single Sunday out of gratitude for what Jesus has done for her.
I have been blessed to have Tiana in my small group this trimester and I have gotten to know her heart. She is a joy to be with and is an example of Christ’s love to those around her.
Tiana has not had a car since we’ve known her. She has been riding the train and getting rides from her friends at South Bay. Our church secretly raised money on Tiana’s behalf in order to purchase her a nice used van. David was tasked (because of his experience in the auto industry) to locate and purchase the van. The night he found the right one I was actually with him and got to go with him on the test drive. He had found a 2002 dodge caravan with low miles, and after driving it we both felt like it was the one.
This past Sunday morning Andy preached on goodness and at the end of his message he called Tiana to the stage and shared a little of her story. (Most everyone knew what was coming, but TIana had no idea!) Andy asked to have the gift brought around, and as soon as Tiana heard the engine start she began to weep and was so overcome with emotion.
