My dearest Avery, you just keep getting older and older. It is so much fun watching you develop into the young lady that God has made you to be. You are so full of life, you’re an outside the box thinker, and you are always on the go. One of your famous quotes from this year has been “I don’t want to talk talk talk, I want to run run run!” And you do! You simply cannot sit still. You’re always looking for opportunities to escape, to get dirty, to find an adventure, to ruin your clothes. I can’t really give away any clothes that you’ve had because everything is stained and has holes in it. I just have to smile as I write this.
You are good at so many things. You are smart, imaginative, quick witted, athletic, musical. You, like my sister Aunt Brittany, have an audio memory and it’s amazing how many songs we hear you singing now that you have learned at Echo Church. I love it. You love music and dancing (almost as much as your brother!) and you can even finish lines from books I’m reading when you aren’t even in the same room! Oh, and you also wrote a song. I should include it here by video. Anyone who knew you during spring of 2019 heard this song…
You love friends and are quick to connect with other kids. I think they enjoy that you care about them and you always have fun ideas. You have a shirt that you’re about to grow out of that has an ostrich on it and it says “Hey girl, Be you!” I say that to you often because it just makes me smile. You don’t know any other way, you’re just going to be you! I hope that’s always the case. I hope you’re able to escape (at least most of the time) the temptation to compare yourself. The feeling that you have to fit the mold to be accepted by other people or to be loved or seen. What most people don’t really learn (or at least believe) until they get older, is that the people who are most sure of who they are are truly the leaders. Confidence and peace in who you are flows from the inside. God made you to be you, and no body else. You’ll have an uphill battle especially with hand held devices and screens all over town and shopping mall telling you what you SHOULD be. Don’t give in for a minute my little princess.
My prayer for you is that you would see yourself as the leader that you are.
I’m so encouraged to see your faith developing. You are picking up Bible verses that we have started learning together at home. I want these truths to grow deep into the soil of your heart and shape your perspective of yourself, the world and your creator. You were made by a God who loves you dearly, who designed you just the way you are, And who has so much blessing and adventure in store for you! I hope that you can see in daddy and myself that you cannot out give God. The more you surrender and give yourself to him, the more he blesses you, and it just overflows. I couldn’t mean that more. I’m here for you always my little #2. You’ve always got a spot right here with me.
